I was born in the west end of Toronto, the youngest of three children. I won’t tell you when that was, but this is a real black-and-white photo.
I learned to read before I even started school.
In the early days, my mom would have to remind me to put my book away and go to sleep. Now I’m allowed to stay up and read all night if I want to — if only I could stay awake!
As a child, it wasn’t unusual for me to read the same books over and over again, even during the time I had them on loan from the library. However, after reading Anne of Green Gables for the first time, I wouldn’t allow myself to read it more than once in a six-month period so it wouldn’t get stale. It’s still one of my all-time favourites, and I’ve read the whole series, including The Blythes are Quoted, which was published after the death of L.M. Montgomery, and Before Green Gables, the prequel written by Budge Wilson.
I’ll read anything from literary fiction to cookbooks, and have even been spotted reading a Kleenex box when nothing more exciting was within reach.
These days, I’m a pursuer of health and happiness in Hamilton, Ontario, where my husband and I enjoy this view while sharing a home with our dog and cat.
My life’s not perfect, but it’s pretty fantastic, and I wouldn’t trade places with anyone.
